Choosing Wisely: 6 Questions to Ask a San Angelo Roofer Before Hiring

Hiring a roofing contractor is a major decision. Our West Texas weather—ranging from intense sun to occasional but severe hailstorms—demands a durable roof. To protect your home and wallet, ask these six essential questions before signing any contract:

1. Are you locally established in San Angelo?

Ensure the company has a physical office nearby, not just a P.O. box. Out-of-state “storm chasers” often disappear after a major hailstorm, leaving you stranded if your roof leaks later.

2. Are you experienced working with insurance companies?

Many San Angelo roofing projects start with an insurance claim. You want a contractor who understands the claims process inside and out. They should be able to meet your insurance adjuster at your home, walk the roof with them to ensure all damage is properly documented, and help you navigate the paperwork.

3. Will you provide a written estimate?

Always ask for your estimate in writing. This protects you and significantly decreases the chances of any misunderstanding regarding roofing material, etc.

4. What warranties are included?

Confirm both the manufacturer’s warranty on materials and the contractor’s warranty on workmanship. A reputable roofer stands by their installation quality.

5. Will you completely remove the old roof?

Don’t settle for repair when a full roof replacement is needed. If only a small area is damaged, replacing those specific shingles may be all that’s needed. A reputable company can examine and recommend what is truly necessary to protect your home.

6. How do you protect my property and clean up?

Roof replacement creates a mess. Ask how the crew plans to safeguard your landscaping, gutters, and driveway.
